Sunshine Polidori

Sunshine Polidori is a human blonde girl who is best friends with and the main love interest for Oskar von Horrificus. She lives with her grandfather and guardian, Paulus Polidori, near the School for Vampires.

Personality

Sunshine is a sweet, loving girl who is very friendly and optimistic. She likes to help people(usually her grandfather), even if that brings discomfort towards her. However, she can be very down-to-earth and realistic, not seeing much sense in Oskar overthinking or being dramatic (mostly due to not knowing he's a vampire), and can even appear a bit rude and selfish sometimes, presumably because of her feelings for Oskar, such as when she gets angry at him for forgetting about the scarf he gave her as a birthday gift and for him not noticing her different hairstyle, lashing out at him.

She is easily embarrassed by her grandfather and his crazy vampire slaying ways, and often gets irritated by him, referring to him as silly and crazy. Due to her grandfather's antics, she refuses to invite her town friends over to her house after a pajama party in which he barged into the room with a flaming wheel and stink bombs after thinking he had heard vampire chanting.

Moonbeam

Sunshine as Moonbeam

In the episode "Sunshine and Moonbeam", Oskar accidentally bites Sunshine and she temporarily turns into a vampire. Now calling herself Moonbeam, she instantly separates herself from her mortal counterpart, acting much differently too; she's now very rebellious, extremely bloodthirsty, a troublemaker, rude and rowdy. And also loses interest in Oskar and only has thirst for blood and "cool vampires" such as Stoker. This is the only time we see Sunshine as a vampire.

Relationships

Oskar von Horrificus

Sunshine is best friends with Oskar and serves as the main love interest, also having romantic feelings towards him. She likes him, but gets embarassed over her grandfather ruining various moments between the two. Oskar seeks to protect Sunshine whenever she is in danger, and goes to long lengths to keep her safe. They've shared many moments together throughout the series and are a very sweet couple. In the first several episodes, Sunshine's grandfather didn't like Oskar, but he presumably becomes used to him in later episodes, even being friendly towards him at times.

In the German/Italian version of the show, Sunshine is shown to be very skeptic about Oskar being a vampire and even helps hide Oskar's secret from her grandfather. However, in the English version, Sunshine is fully unaware that Oskar is a vampire throughout the entire series; whenever Oskar accidentally shows his vampire qualities, Sunshine finds it odd but doesn't think much of it, dismissing it as silly, and she will help him through all his sticky situations.

Stoker Flestcher

Sunshine never had any awareness of her brief fling with Stoker in the two times it happened. Once because she was Moonbeam at the time, detached from her usual personality after Oskar accidentally bites her in the episode, Sunshine and Moonbeam; Moonbeam and Stoker flirt a lot with each other and hang out constantly, constantly expressing that she liked how Stoker was a "real" vampire, matching her own bloodthirst and troublemaking ways. Stoker was equally infatuated with her until he found out that Moonbeam is Sunshine, where he feels repulsed and disgusted at the fact he showed interest in a human. In another episode, A Vampire's Kiss; Stoker accidentally eats cookies laced with a love potion Gothetta made for Oskar after stealing it, which makes him fall in love with the first person he sees, which was Sunshine, whom he wanted to bite beforehand. At first, she is hostile towards Stoker, asking him what he is doing and who he is, but eventually also acidentally takes the potion too and they both fall in love with each other for the night. When both gain consciousness, they begin to argue and fight, clearly not liking each other under normal circumstances.

• Her last name is a reference to John William Polidori, who is considered to have written one of the first vampire books, that being 1819's The Vampyre.
